Chances are that if you were to go ask a random sample of ten people if they had a credit card, most of them would say that they indeed carry one. It is a pretty rare occasion that the average consumer will not have a credit card of some sort on their person. The number of consumers who have bucked the merchant accounts and credit card processing trend and exclusively go cash-only is even more rare.
Said Olivia Maragna, “The freedom to spend more than you have and the lure of frequent-flyer points or some reward program that gives you an apparent free gift - though you end up paying for it in a lack of discipline or interest - is far more exciting than sticking to spending only what you can afford.” She suggests that consumers try to rid themselves of credit cards and the pitfalls that accompany them.
